2022 Corvette Stingray Coupe 2LT Review: Price, Specs and More

2022 Corvette Stingray Coupe 2LT

Disclosure: The 2022 Corvette Stingray Coupe 2LT was provided to me for testing purposes and editorial consideration. All opinions are 100% my own*

Hey guys,

A few weeks back, I had the pleasure of testing out the iconic 2022 Corvette Stingray Coupe 2LT. As soon as it arrived, I felt an extreme sense of anxiety and excitement. No, not because I was nervous to drive such a beast, but because it was once again time for me to test out a vehicle that goes 0 to 60 in 2.9 seconds… Period!

After pretty much living in it for a few days, I was convinced that I actually enjoyed this year’s model even more than last years. The odd thing is that I was not even sure why, because both cars are insane.

However, after putting a little thought into it, it literally boils down to the color. I know right?!?!? How can a color make you enjoy one vehicle more than the other? Well, although the Accelerate Yellow Metallic (the color of the 2021 model that I drove) was gorgeous and is totally like a life size version of a Hot Wheels Corvette Stingray Convertible. The Hypersonic Gray Metallic puts me in the mind of Megaton, a transformer, from an iconic cartoon that I used to obsess over as a young teen. Although he was not a good guy, I still loved him! HAHA!

So yes, I was definitely unknowingly tapping into my inner child that entire week, but really who could blame me?

No Track Access, No Problem

Although access to a track would have been ideal, I was totally fine taking the mid-engine coupe out late nights when the highways were pretty empty. I did the same thing last year and it worked out well. Hey, sometimes you just have to work with what you got, and I got access to tons of freeways.

As I stated in the previous article, during the late evenings is when I had the opportunity to open up the eighth generation C8 a bit and same as before…the growl, the power, its strength and the handling were exhilarating.

What’s New

The mid-engine C8 Corvette Stingray received its fair share of changes this year. Check them out below…

Exterior

  • Three new exterior color options were added and three have officially been discontinued:
    • New color additions:
      • Caffeine Metallic
      • Hypersonic Gray Metallic
      • Amplify Orange Tintcoat
    • Discontinued colors:
      • Zeus Bronze Metallic
      • Shadow Gray Metallic
      • Sebring Orange Tintcoat
  • The 5-spoke Performance Pewter-painted aluminum wheel option has officially been discontinued for 2022.
    • Note: These specific wheels were (LPO-level) options.
    • What does LPO stand for?
      • LPO=Limited Production Option. A preordered option that is delivered/installed by the dealer, rather than the factory.
  • Although the 5-spoke Performance Pewter-painted aluminum wheel option has been discontinued, Chevy added three new LPO-level options, which include:
    • Black ground effects
    • Visible carbon fiber door intake trim
    • High wing spoiler with visible carbon fiber

Interior

  • Illuminated door sill plates were added to the interior of the 2022 Corvette stingray, which is the only interior change for this year.

Under The Hood

  • There were only a few modifications to the 6.2L V8 LT2 engine, which include:
    • Active Fuel Management System
    • Engine calibration

Packages

  • Chevy introduced the 2022 Corvette IMSA GTLM Championship Edition on June 9th, 2021, in Detroit, MI. It was built in celebration of Chevy’s championship-winning season in the 2020 IMSA WeatherTech Series and is based on the 2022 Stringray’s 3LT trim w/the Z51 Performance Package.

Who is the 2022 Mid-Engine Supercar for?

Good news folks, Chevy is looking to diversify! They are moving away from the stereotypical, Corvette = older white males = mid-life crisis, and appealing to a younger, hipper crowd, including women.

Now don’t get me wrong, the Vette has always appealed to the masses. However, the low price, innovative tech, insane styling and upgrade to Supercar has totally elevated the vehicle and helped to capture a newer audience.

Check out who they are currently targeting:

  • A new, younger and more diverse crowd
  • The cool and stylish single who loves a fun and powerful vehicle
  • People who like fun topless weekend cars
  • A young and hip couple who likes to take fun road trips
  • Anyone who is into performance

Sassy Auto Chick Tip:

Lately, I’ve been asked several times what to wear when driving a sports car/Supercar.

Answer: You can really wear anything you want. Yet, being cute and comfortable is key! I personally like Athleisure for the style and comfort. However, when considering jeans, just know that Lycra is your best friend. You want to be focused on the cool car experience; not how much the jeans you’re wearing are continuously pinching your stomach.
