I have always been a huge fan of the Ford Bronco. My ex-boyfriend owned one before the infamous OJ chase and then got rid of it shortly after. I was so bummed when he decided to sell the SUV, because I used to get so excited when he picked me up for dates or just for a little joyriding. The good ole days!
As you can tell I am feeling nostalgic, but I think several of us have a Bronco story that stir up some sort of emotion!
Now let’s fast forward things a bit…
Michigan – Upper Peninsula

Last year I had the pleasure of heading to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula for some serious off-roading in the Ford Bronco Everglades 4X4. As stated in a previous article, this was my first-time participating in intense off-roading where I was actually the driver. It didn’t take me long to realize that I always want to be the driver when off-roading and that the Ford Bronco Everglades is an off-roading beast.

Although I had the opportunity to experience the SUV while adventuring in Michigan, I requested to test it out at home. Myself, as well as my audience already witnessed what it could do in the wild, but to bring things full circle we all really wanted to see how well it would fit in a person’s everyday lifestyle.
After a few days with the vehicle, I noticed that because it is such a cool ride, handled so well on-road, comes equipped with a decent amount of storage and also was super easy to park, it made running errands fun. I literally found myself looking for reasons to drive. The one thing I would say is, take note of the gas mileage (18 city, 17 highway, 18 combined), but I am guessing if you own a vehicle of this magnitude, gas mileage wouldn’t get an issue.

The SUV is extremely versatile and can definitely be used as an everyday vehicle. I noticed right off, how well it fits with the South Florida vibe and trust me when I say I wasn’t the only one who noticed. It is definitely an attention magnet.
Yes! I was having a blast rolling around my neighborhood, but my adventurous side would not allow me to have a Ford Bronco Everglades in my possession and not head south to Homestead, Miami to explore the Everglades National Park. If I had not gone, I would have regretted it! So, I purchased a park pass online and the next day, I was up before dawn, heading south on I-95 for some adventure.

Everglades National Park

Everglades National Park is a 1.5-million-acre wetlands preserve on the southern tip of the U.S. state of Florida, and one of the largest parks in the United States. You can go for walks, on tours, kayaking, do some sight-seeing, look for gators, manatees and so much more.
A few years back I went airboating in the Everglades. However, this time I wanted to explore the park by way of the Ford Bronco.
Now I must admit, I underestimated how much time I really needed. I was there for at least four-hours and in my opinion, I didn’t even scratch the surface. Four-hours may sound like a long time, but once you are inside this magnificent place four-hours can seem like 20 minutes. You truly need an entire day to experience it fully.

Since I was looking for the best way to observe the heart of the park by vehicle, I entered through the Main Entrance of the Park in Homestead. I stopped at the Ernest F. Coe Visitor center for a map and some basic information, and I was off to explore.
Hole-in-the-Donut

First Stop – Hole-in-the-Donut
The HID was once farmland that became completely invaded by invasive Brazilian pepper plants when farming stopped in 1975 and is absolutely stunning.
I was actually on my way to check out the HM69 Nike Missile Base, but like so many others I could not pass this area without stopping and taking in/capturing the scenery.

Note: The nickname “Hole-in-the-Donut” came about because native plants (the donut) surrounded the farmland (the donut hole).

HM69 Nike Missile Base

Second Stop – Nike Missile Base
The Nike Missile Site HM-69 is extremely cool and very interesting. This base is a former Nike-Hercules missile base, now listed as a historic site west of Homestead, Florida, United States. It is located on Long Pine Key Road in the Everglades National Park
Hercules was a second-generation missile system designed to intercept jet aircraft, and was deployed throughout the United States and Western Europe.

Note: I stopped at several spots along the way but discussed the ones that really stood out. My goal is to plan for an entire day when I return.
