Ford has been a household name as far back as I can remember. So imagine my excitement when I was invited to Phoenix to test drive the All-New 2015 Ford Edge. #YEAAAA! There are several reasons why I was completely beside myself when I received the invite. First, being chosen to test drive one of Ford’s sleek new rides is a fantastic opportunity! Second, I always wanted to see the gorgeous mountains of Phoenix and I love to travel! Third, this would give me the chance to get up close and personal with the vehicle(s) and then share my experience with my readers the same month it goes on the market!
Since starting my relationship with Ford, I have learned to drive a stick, enjoyed quite a few heady spin outs, and test drove/reviewed several of their amazingly fabulous and innovative fleet. I must say that I’ve never been disappointed, but I have to admit this new Edge has tapped into ALL of my automotive senses!! Bye Bye Pontiac! LOL
The 2015 midsize crossover is a beauty! However, it is much more than just looks. There are several added bonuses that take this ride to a new level. The outside is a little larger and the inside a little tighter which helps to provide spacious seating and tons of leg room. It also comes equipped with the latest technology, such as; the new EcoBoost engine (2.7-liter V6), Push Button Start, Enhanced Active Park Assist, a 180-degree front camera system with a washer, Lane Keeping Assist, Sony Sound-System, two 2-amp USB chargers and much more.
On the day of our scheduled drive, participates split off into groups and tested the perpendicular and parallel park assist functions. Although I consider myself a good driver, perpendicular and parallel parking have never been my specialty. The new perpendicular function has the amazing ability to back your car into a vertical spot with the driver only taking control of the brakes. I noticed that there was a lot of pulling forward, backing in and straightening while using this feature, but by the time it was over we were backed in perfectly. #Roadragebeware! 🙂 The same goes for the parallel parking. It may take time getting there, but this function will get you into some of the tightest spots. My suggestion is to practice. I am sure the more you work with both features the easier they will become to handle. #practicemakesperfect!
Another new function is the 180-degree front camera system w/washer. It works when your view is blocked or when pulling up to blind intersections. I got a kick out of the baby strollers placed in the street by Ford. They wanted to ensure we experienced the full effect of this feature. Lol!
After we completed this portion of the exercise, we turned up the Sony; HD Radio of course, and headed to the gorgeous mountains of Phoenix. Once we reached our destination, we took a four-hour round-trip drive to test the boundaries of both the “sport” and the “titanium”, and boy was it fantastic. Our group consisted of three, so at each point we switched drivers. Although my first love is the “sport”, both vehicles handled very well and while maneuvering through the countryside I felt safe. Thank God for the Lane-Keeping System, which helps to avoid lane drift, because while captivated by the dreamy view I felt the system gently nudge me as if to say, “Hey! Eyes on the road sister!” Lol! Opps! 🙂
The New Ford Edge is a dream, especially for a self-proclaimed fashionista such as me. Yes! Specs are extremely important! Yes! Safety is mandatory! Yes! Getting great gas mileage to keep money in your pocket is a must! However, I have to confess, and this may sound superficial, but sometimes you just want to look good in your ride and have your ride look good on you! While navigating through the countryside I felt like I was strutting around in the latest “Red Bottoms“! And we all know how a girl can be about her high-end shoes!!!
I would absolutely recommend this sleek and sassy machine to anyone! Ford continues to outdo themselves each year and this new Edge just solidifies what we already know that their vehicles are “the hottest accessories around“! I am due for a new ride really soon and I am definitely considering this one! I absolutely love it!
